Book Review: The Twilight Saga

Come on, everyone's heard of the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer.  The awesome vampire-love story with lots and lots of 'bite'.  Usually girls read it, since "OMG Edward Cullen is SO hot".  I hear that a lot...

Book one, Twilight:  The series starter has a good beginning.  Bella Swan falls for Edward Cullen and finds out that he's a vamp.  Well, okay, that is a very typical/hackneyed beginning for a romantic book.  The guy is like a GOD, and the girl is way down below in social status.  Kinda like the mangas I read.  ^_^  But in truth, Twilight's plot appears way too late, in the middle-end.  You read through it for 18 chapters bored out of your mind with only the "hotness" of Edward to console you...and even when the plot DOES appear - it's still kinda boring.  You could even say that Twilight has no plot.  It's just a fangirl-y book of Edward love and obsession.  -_-

Book two, New Moon:  Edward leaves Bella in this book, and suddenly Jacob becomes a main character.  Bella starts to obsess over him.  OK, you might think it's just a friend worrying about another friend, but to me, Bella's just using Jacob to hide her pain about Edward.  You can tell that she's obsessive.  But I actually like New Moon better than Twilight.  Her pain and Jacob's transformation gives the readers something to think about until the plot appears...AGAIN late in the story.  Sheesh, Meyer should seriously think about where she places her plot.  -_-

Book three, Eclipse:  Wow, what a surprise!  Bella's obsessing again, and this time over both Edward AND Jacob.  What a loser.  Read it yourself to get the details 'cause I don't want to say much.  But just to give you guys a head's up, chapter 20 I think it was....well, anyways, that chapter isn't suited for children under 13.  Bella seducing Edward?  Come ON.

Book four, Breaking Dawn:  Meyer actually got sued because of this book.  Supposedly this other author wrote a book (also called Breaking Dawn 0_0) that almost had the exact same plot!  Huh.  Anyways, in this book, Bella gets pregnant and whatever.  THIS BOOK CANNOT BE READ BY IMMATURE CHILDREN.  So I'll skip the inappropriate details.  Bella becomes a vampire and starts obsessing again...this time over herself!  What a narcissist.  The Volturi come in and the atmosphere implys that there's gonna be a fight, but there isn't any fight at all!  Blah blah blah.  I find this book the WORST in the series.  I don't suggest you read it.  (You can tell, right?  My writing got noticably worse.)

You could say that the Twilight Saga is a book about love.  You can also say it's a book about obsession.  Your choice.

The characters aren't very admirable either.  Edward's suicidal, Bella's obsessive, Jacob's a bit wacko...etc.  I can't imagine anyone who would WANT to relate to them emotionally.

I used to go to a drawing class, and sometimes we would talk about random things.  One day, we talked about Twilight.  LOL:

Quote Jack:  "Edward likes Bella because she smells good and he can't read her mind.  Guess why Bella likes Edward?  He looks sexy.  His hair is sexy.  His breath is sexy.  I don't see any other connection between them."  That got him a few stares from the little kids, but whatever.

So anyways, say what you want, but that's my opinion. And to all you Edward Cullen fangirls out there: RETHINK. EDWARD IS A BAD CHARACTER. YOU PEOPLE CREEP ME OUT.

-Vociferously yours, Vicky.
